Risk attitudes play important roles in health behaviour and everyday decision making. It is unclear, however, whether these attitudes which may include smoking, alcohol consumption sedentary life style, sexual behaviour and unhealthy eating habit can be predicted by parenting styles. The prevalence of health risk behaviour has been noticed especially among first year student of the University of Ibadan, which may be due to the fact that they have not been fully integrated into the new school system. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised all the firstyear resident students in University of Ibadan, Ibadan, using multistage sampling technique. Two adapted questionnaires were used as instruments for the study. The descriptive statistics of frequency count and percentage for demographic data, inferential statistics of multiple regressions were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that there was no significant positive relationship between parenting styles (authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and neglectful) and health risk behaviour. This implies that authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and neglectful parenting
styles had no significant relationship with health risk behavior among first year students of the University of Ibadan.
