Football Game: A Tool for Peace Building and Sustainable Development in Nigerian Politics

Abstract

Participation in a sport like football has brought politicians together in making peace through contact between the antagonists for peace building in Nigeria politics. This study therefore was embarked to find out the relationship of football game play as appropriate tool in peace building as perceived among the politicians in south-west Nigeria. Data were collected using a selfdeveloped questionnaire modified into 4-likert scale with reliability of 0.65. Frequency count, percentage, charts and chi-square (x2) were used for data analysis and statistical inference was made at 0.05 alpha levels. It was revealed from the findings of this study that participation in football game was significantly related to peace reconstruction, peace reconciliation and peace resolution in sustaining political development among the politicians in Nigeria. Therefore, it was concluded that football as a team game may supports peace building and initiatives for sustainable development in Nigeria politics.
