Academic Pressure and Stress Coping Strategies among Undergraduate Students Universities in Ondo State

Abstract

The main purpose of the study was to find the causes of academic pressure and stress among undergraduate students of Universities in Ondo state. The study also highlighted the coping strategies. A total of three thousand and one hundred (3100) samples were used for the study. A self-developed questionnaire named Academic Pressure and Stress Coping Strategies (APSCS) was used as the main instrument for collecting data for the study. The main variable of the study was academic work and lack of amenities. Percentages and Chi-square (X2) statistics were used to test the results at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study revealed that academic pressure and lack of essential amenities are the major contributor to academic pressure and stress among undergraduate students in Ondo State. Recommendations include Recreational and sports facilities should be constructed for students, so that they will be able to recreate, refresh and release tensions that could lead to stress; Provision of essential amenities such as electricity and water supply to make life bearable for the students
