The present study examined the influence of personal factors on social integration of adults with hearing impairment in Oyo State. The personal factors included in the study are employment status, educational attainment, onset of hearing loss, and gender. The study was conducted on a sample of one hundred adults with hearing impairment (forty-three men and fifty-seven women) purposely selected from different backgrounds and perspectives in Oyo State. A structured questionnaire with items adapted from some relevant standardized scales was used for data collection. Data were analyzed using frequency count, percentages, ANOVA and T-test. The major findings of the study showed that employment status, educational attainment and onset of hearing loss significantly influenced social integration among adults with hearing impairment in Oyo State. The findings also revealed significant gender differences in social integration among the respondents. Based on the findings, the study recommended the need for effective public education to dispel the gross ignorance and poor understanding of issues involved in hearing impairment. Besides, all tiers of government are urged to involve adults with hearing impairment in societal activities. There is also the pressing need to provide more employment for qualified adults with hearing impairment to serve as role models.
