This study examined organisational policy as a predictor of competitive sports participation among staff of Federal Colleges of Education in southwest, Nigeria. This study was necessitated due to increase in the use of non-bonafide staff by some Federal Colleges due to low participation of bonafide staff in competitive sports. The study used a descriptive survey research design. One research question and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Total enumeration was used to select all the Federal Colleges of Education in Southwest, purposive sampling technique was also used to select members of staff who participate in sports and proportionate sampling technique was used to determine the four hundred (400) respondents based on each college population. Frequency count, simple percentage, weighted mean and multiple regression analysis were used to analyse the data at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result of the study showed that funding, motivation and injury insurance programme would jointly and independently predict participation in competitive sports among staff of Federal Colleges of Education in Southwest, Nigeria. Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that funding, motivation, injury insurance programme had independent and joint
effect on competitive sports participation among the respondents. It was recommended among others that the colleges of education management should adequately fund both intra-mural and extra-mural sports, CESSAN should change the status of the game from competitive to recreational sports and a comprehensive sport insurance policy be institutionalised to cover training, intra-mural and extra-mural games.
